The Wintersweet Foundation would also like to give our special thanks to the many volunteers at Love Without Boundaries for through their wonderful programs we are able to help these beautiful children.

Baby Tong
This beautiful newborn baby boy from Anhui, China had pyloric stenosis (his esophagus was blocked and he couldn’t eat).

Update: 1/24/06
Tong has had his surgery and his life has been saved, thanks to you! He is doing well and was just discharged from the hospital yesterday. I have attached his surgery picture.
Thank you so much for your donation! You have changed this child’s life forever!

Update: 2/6/06 – Please keep baby Tong in your prayers
Tong was just admitted to the hospital pneumonia. The orphanage has told us he will be in the hospital about 2 weeks. Please keep him in your prayers. We have sent additional funds this month to help cover Tong’s hospital expenses.

Update 2/15/06
Baby Tong, who first had pyloric stenosis surgery and then was sick with pneumonia, is finally healed! He was just discharged from the hospital and he looks great!! Thank you so much for helping to heal this sweet baby boy. You have helped to save his life!

Baby Yun
This beautiful little 7month girl from Jiangxi, China had a very serious heart condition. In addition to having surgery, she required a heart cath to determine the specific heart defect.

Update: 1/24/06
Baby Yun just had heart surgery and it was a success!!! The doctor said the surgery went so well, she is healed forever. This child was very sick and we are all celebrating that she will never need another heart surgery. They will be sending us an after pictures soon. We are also looking forward to seeing her on an adoption list in the future.

This is all because of YOU!!! YOU saved this child’s life! Thank you so much!

Update: 3/10/06
We just received pictures of Yun and she looks so great!! The orphanage told us that the caregivers like her very much!! The director wants to send their best wishes to the donors who helped this girl.

You have changed her life forever!! We have asked for her paperwork to be submitted for adoption – hopefully, she will now have a chance to find a family.

Thank YOU for giving her this chance!

Baby Joseph
This sweet little baby from Guizhou, China has hydrocephalus. His case has been reviewed by Chinese doctors and he needs a CSF refenestration surgery to fix his shunt.

Update: 2/16/06
Joseph is scheduled for his shunt surgery next week, either Monday or Tuesday. His caretaker has talked with the neurosurgeon and has everything set up.

I will let you know as soon as I hear more. Thank you so very much for helping this precious baby boy!

Update: 2/27/06
I have some wonderful news!!! Joseph arrived at the hospital and upon examination by the neurosurgeon it was determined that he is doing really well and is stable. The doctor recommended that he not have his refenestration surgery at this time. The doctor also performed a head CT and Joseph is actually showing an improvement with cortical growth – more brain tissue and less CSF (the fluid that the shunt drains away) than 6 months ago.

Thank you so much for helping Joseph! We always love to get news like this!!

Update: 3/6/06
I received this picture of Joseph during his stay in the hospital. Thank you again for being part of his success story!

Sincerely,
Karen Maunu

Baby Lan
This sweet baby girl from Anhui, China has small eyelids and will have surgery to make them larger.

Update: 1/25/06
Baby Lan will have surgery after Chinese New Year. Waiting for final update.

Update: 5/29/06
I just wanted you to know that Lan is scheduled for her eye surgery on June 5, so she will soon be moving to the hospital!

Update: 6/09/06
I finally received a lot of information on Lan and why there has been such a delay in her surgery. The orphanage brought her to Hefei Children’s hospital in February, but they weren't able to do her surgery. So then the orphanage took her to Anhui Medical University. They also don’t have a doctor that specializes in eye surgery, but the hospital suggested that they wait for an expert named Dr. Zhao Li to do the surgery. Dr. Zhao used to work at Beijing Concord Hospital and was just recruited by Anhui Medical University Hospital. He has the experience in doing this kind of surgery and is an expert plastic surgeon/ophthalmologist. He is currently in Beijing for an academic meeting and will be back on June 14th. They are hoping they will be able to get her scheduled soon after.

Thank you so much for your support of this child. We will keep working until we find just the right place and doctor to do her surgery and I will keep you posted.

Update: 6/16/06
I just received updated pictures of Lan – she looks like she has quite a personality! I will let you know when her surgery is scheduled.

Lan is scheduled to move to Anhui Medical University Hospital next Monday. We are so happy that she will soon have surgery on her eye lids. I will keep you posted!

Update: 6/22/06
Lan looks wonderful! Thank you so much for changing her life! You have given her the gift of sight!

Ours special thanks to some wonderful families that held a raffle during their Chinese New Year Party. They raised over $200 to help Baby Ming. LWB raised the remaining amount needed for her surgery.

Update: 3/6/06
We were going to be transferring Ming to Hangzhou for her heart surgery this week. She just got a cold and will now be moved to Hangzhou next week. Thank you so much for your donation. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers so that she can be healthy enough for her surgery.

Update: 3/23/06
Baby Ming, from Hunan, arrived in Hangzhou on Monday. Dr. Li has examined her and determined that she has a huge VSD, pulmonary hypertension, and a respiratory infection. The hospital is currently treating her respiratory infection and Dr. Li will perform her heart surgery when she is feeling better.

Update: 3/28/06
We just received an update on baby Ming today from Dr. Li. Baby Ming, who has a large VSD and severe pulmonary hypertension, has caught another respiratory infection. She is running a high fever and has a bad cough. They will have to wait another 10 days for her to recover and then they can reschedule her surgery.

Please keep this baby girl in your thoughts and prayers. We hope she soon will be healed! Thank you so much for helping to heal her!

Update: 4/5/06
Ming’s respiratory infection is finally gone and she is now scheduled for heart surgery tomorrow.

Please keep this little girl in your thoughts and prayers! Thank YOU so much for giving her this chance!

Update: 4/06/06
I just got the word that Ming is out of surgery and it was very successful!!! We are so happy that she is finally healed – she has been sick for so long!

Update: 6/02/06
I was so excited to check my email today and find a beautiful updated picture of Ming! She is doing so well since her surgery. I have asked our facilitator if her papers have been submitted for adoption and will encourage the orphanage to do this.

Thank you so much for donating towards her heart surgery. Your donation has changed her life forever!!

Baby Miao
This sweet baby girl from Fujian has a dislocated hip on the right side that needs to be surgically corrected. Her surgery will cost $4000. Will you please help her so she can walk? On 2/27/06 the funds we sent for Baby Joseph that were not needed were reallocated to help Baby Miao. We will continue to raise funds to help Baby Miao.

Update: May 24, 2006
The orphanage is moving Miao to the hospital tomorrow for an exam. After that, they will schedule her for surgery. Thank you so much for helping this beautiful little girl!

Update: June 10, 2006
The orphanage brought Miao to the doctor for an examination. The doctor suggests keeping her in brace for a while longer. He will continue to check her and in about 6 months decide whether the bracket has corrected her problem. We have received an updated picture of her that I have attached. Thank you so much for helping her! YOU have made a difference in her life!
